Mr Jeremiah Johnson wins Facility Manager of the Year

Muskego, WI – The Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) recently announced the 2016 School Facilities Manager of the Year Award winner as Jeremiah Johnson, Director of Buildings and Grounds for Muskego Norway School District. Recipients of the School Facilities Manager of the Year Award must meet several criteria in the areas of outstanding contributions to their local school district and community, to the school facilities manager profession, and to WASBO. Johnson has been a presenter and Facility Manager/School Risk Manager designation recipient for WASBO. He has also exemplified a commitment to the profession through his involvement and regional leadership of the Southeast Wisconsin Metro Buildings and Grounds Group and has served on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin School Safety Coordinators Association.

Jeremiah has had many achievements since beginning to work with the Muskego Norway School District, starting as a sub custodian in 2001 and growing into his current position as Director of Buildings and Grounds. He constantly seeks to improve his department, using stakeholder feedback through data driven methods. Johnson has developed an app to monitor quality and safety; implemented visitor management software at all schools; helped reduce workplace injuries by 50%; and contributed to saving the district $4 million in utility costs. Every school in the district received the EPA Energystar designation in 2015.

Under the leadership of Jeremiah Johnson, the Muskego Norway School District is a safer and more secure district. His efforts to continuously improve his department and work with employees to forward the district’s mission have earned Jeremiah this recognition. Jeff Petersen, Assistant Superintendent for Continuous Improvement, recommended Johnson, saying, “his ideas are unique, work ethic unmatched, relational skills strong and resulting impact tremendous, not only to the operations department but also student learning.” The district is closer to its vision because of Jeremiah Johnson’s commitment to his profession, the Muskego Norway School District, and the community.

Energy Savings

Through the diligent effort of our entire staff, our District has reduced energy consumtion by over 30% since 2006! In 2015, all schools were awarded the EPA "Energy Star Award". Through these efforts we were able to reduce greenhouse gas emission by over 6,912 mega-tons, which is equal to planting over 177,000 trees. This program has also allowed us to keep over $5,000,000 in the classroom!

Visitor Management

Muskego-Norway Schools value student and visitor safety. As of 2015, all visitors are required to check in at the main office prior to entering the facility during the school day. All visitors must submit an ID that is processed by our Raptor Visitor Managment Software. This software allows us to know who is in each building at all times and also prints high quility visitor badges which display the visitor's photo and destination. The Raptor Software also checks all visitors against the national sex-offender database. During the first six months of implementation we have successfully processed over 10,000 visitors!
