The Sensory Hallway is an inviting space for all students, teachers, and families at BLE.. The hallway can be utilized by teachers as they walk to and from locations in the building. It can also be a destination providing your students with some wiggle time and brain break time. The space was also created with the idea and intention of sending students for multiple purposes whether it be with a partner or a small group. Or whole class for kinesthetic breaks as well as a fun educational outlet. The intent behind building the sensory hallway was also to provide a space when there arises a need for a student to take a break and regulate. We’re hoping this space is a tool to help build self-awareness around emotion regulation and a vehicle to spark conversation and self-reflection. Students can move through the hallway going in one side and exit in the other, going in one side turning around and coming back to where they started from. At this point time, limits are up to teacher's discretion of who supervises a break is also teacher discretion. This hallway is not intended as a playground space where children can just come and play rather a space to be calm - quiet or energized by the movements outlined on the floor and walls.
