Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month (September - May) at 6:30pm and usually last about an hour. We meet in the art room or the library; the location of the meeting will be posted at the school entrance that evening.
The Tess Corners PTO is a strong group of parent volunteers who make a lot of great stuff happen each year for our awesome students and wonderful teachers. We could always use fresh ideas for potential events and cool things to provide to the school, and of course additional hands to pull it all off! Please consider joining us at our monthly meetings this year and bring your ideas and resources! Every parent is automatically a “member” with a vote and there are no dues or other obligations – just a willingness to jump in wherever you are comfortable to help make the TC community better and better!
Last year alone TC families raised over $29,000 through the Walk a Thon, Market Day, Restaurant Fundraiser Nights, registering their Target Red Cards to our school, and many other events.
How does the PTO vote to use these funds then, you ask?
In years past, the PTO has purchased additional Chrome Book computers for the school, above what the district provided for students use. Each teacher keeps these individual computers in their classroom for use when a "cart" of computers is not available to a student needing some additional instruction via educational websites or to finish up an assignment after their "cart" needed to be wheeled off to the next classroom. The PTO has also purchased individual space-saving charging carts for each classroom.
Already planned for the 16-17 school year the PTO will:
Provide headphones to each Kindergartener and new student at our school. Families used to have to pay an additional $5.00 at registration for these. Students will use these all five years at TC!
Provide the third and fourth grade students with assignment notebooks. In the past the funds for these came out of each third and fourth grade teacher’s classroom budget-taking funds away from other potential learning experiences.
Every Year the PTO provides:
“Red Take Home Folders”. In addition to these folders being used as a daily communication source between school and home, they have a bunch of important information and phone numbers printed on them to assist parents with questions during the year.
The PTO also compiles, prints, and distributes the all student directory each year at no cost to families along with producing the school year books at a minimal cost to students.
Family Fun Events. Every year the PTO sponsors the open house cook out, two all school dances, an indoor winter pool party, and an end of the year ice cream social event. All either free or at minimal cost to families. Younger siblings are always welcome at these events!
Here is a list of some other PTO sponsored events and purchases from the 2015-2016 school year (this is some, but may not be all!):
$2,100 in classroom library books thanks to book fair proceeds and Usborne grant.
$1,350 toward the purchase of additional Chrome Books for use in the classrooms (we received additional matching funds from the district for our technology efforts again this year)
$3,100 toward the purchase of 22 Belkin Charging Stations that charge 10 Chromebooks at once.
$5,668 toward field trip transportation costs to offset funds due by parents·
Pizza for every classroom’s end of the year party.
The PTO funds have also been used for a number of fun dances, assemblies and other activities during the school year. What a great year!
Isn’t it amazing what a dedicated group of families working together can accomplish? Please consider joining us at our meetings, generally held on the second Wednesday of each month.
