EVERY STUDENT Learning, Growing . . . Succeeding!
Muskego High School is a nationally accredited (North Central Accreditation) 9–12 high school located in the South East corner of Waukesha County, Wisconsin. The district educates children from the City of Muskego in Waukesha County and from the Town of Norway in Racine County. MHS is a large component of the District's effort to apply for the Wisconsin Forward Award using the Baldrige criteria for continuous quality improvement. The staff are focused on rigor, relevance and critical thinking through differentiation in curriculum delivery.
In September of 2003 the high school building opened its doors after a 155,000 square foot addition was added onto the existing (1957) building, along with approximately 40 acres of athletic fields and green space. Nearly 1700 students use the approximately 130 acres, to learn, grow, succeed, and develop into outstanding young adults.
MHS offers a rigorous curriculum featuring 16 Advance Placement (AP), two accelerated, 5 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) pre-engineering, and eight transcripted credit courses.
The average student ACT scores (23.5) are consistently above the state and national averages. Students who take advantage of the courses with greater rigor, have higher average ACT scores than the school average of 23.5. MHS students took over 400 AP exams during the 2008-2009 school year, scoring a 3 or better (on a 5 point scale) 77% of the time. 90% of MHS students taking an AP calculus class scored a 3 or higher (74% scored a 4/5 or higher).
In the Fall of 2006, MHS became one of only twenty high schools in the state of Wisconsin to offer a fully accredited PLTW curriculum, for students interested in engineering. Beginning in the 2009 - 2010 school year, students taking the Principles of Engineering course will be able to take the class and earn a science credit. Students who show proficiency on the summative tests in their PLTW courses may earn college credits at several Wisconsin Universities; including Milwaukee School of Engineering, UW - Madison, and UW-Plattville.
We offer eight transcripted credit courses where students take classes at MHS, but also get credit at Waukesha County Technical College upon demonstrating proficiency. Many of our students take advantage of the School-To-Work program which gives students an opportunity to earn classroom credit, work experience and get paid at the same time.
The Co-curricular Activity Program of MHS is a vital part of our educational system. It consists of clubs, activities and athletic teams. Our athletic teams compete in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division I (large school). The primary purpose of these programs is to assist students in growing and maturing into responsible members of our school and community. These activities are, and will continue to be, an important part of secondary school life. Co-curricular activities may be referred to as the “other half of education.” Muskego High School offers:
- 21 sports with over 90 teams
- 23 clubs and activities
- 5 choirs and 5 bands
- choir students have earned spots on the WSMA State Honors Choir
- state and national recognition earned in FBLA and DECA
- several forensic state champions
- state championship debate teams
- many team and individual Southeast Conference Champions
- many team and individual WIAA State Championship performers
- 86% of MHS graduates go on to two or four year colleges
- MHS Chorale selected to perform at 2008-09 State Convention of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association
