Academic Highlights
Lakeview Elementary School is proud to offer a comprehensive academic program to ensure that every student will learn, grow and succeed. Differentiated instruction at every grade level provides each child an opportunity for cutting-edge learning. Our philosophy of literacy instruction includes reading (guided, shared, independent, literature circles/studies, reader's workshop), writing (shared/guided, independent) and phonic/word study. Currently, we provide math instruction utilizing the Math Trailblazers math curriculum along with additional district developed supplemental materials. This program has a strong connection to both science and language arts. Students are challenged to think mathematically, communicate their understanding and gain mastery of basic math facts and concepts. Additionally, every student receives instruction in art, music, physical education and guidance.
Educational Resources
The Muskego-Norway primary teachers have begun the seventh year of the implementation of the Literacy Benchmark Assessment Program. The Literacy Benchmark Assessments provide a standard or repeatable way of comparing a child's performance over a period of time. To develop an overall picture of a child's reading behavior, teachers observe the child in a variety of reading and writing contexts. The tasks enable teachers to observe children at work noting their responses. Teachers then summarize where children are in their development of reading, writing and spelling, and use this as the foundation for what children are ready to learn next.
